1997 Lions Reunited Dinner

1997 Lions Reunited Dinner
Thursday 27 Apr 2017 [19:00]
Duration: 4 Hours
Location: Gower Suite

We are delighted to offer you a special opportunity to join us as we reunite the victorious 1997 British & Irish Lions Neil Jenkins, Paul Wallace, John Bentley and Doddie Weir. The event will be held at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea on Thursday 27th April 2017. Your host for the evening will be BBC Wales Scrum V favourite Sean Holley.

The 1997 British & Irish Lions provided moments of brilliance, high emotion and nerve-tingling drama during their memorable South African adventure. It culminated in a 2-1 Test series triumph against the world champion Springboks an amazing success story that defied most pre-tour predictions.

This is your chance to hear an insight into what really happens on a Lions tour up close and personal with four huge characters of the game.

Neil Jenkins
Went on to score more than 1,000 points for Wales, and is now part of the national squad coaching staff alongside the likes of Warren Gatland and Shaun Edwards. Jenkins famously kicked 15 of the 18 points that secured the series victory in Durban.

Paul Wallace
An unsung hero during the 1997 tour, making the Test team. On the tour he started all three matches and was described by captain, Martin Johnson, as "my player of the series".

John Bentley
John Bentley was selected for the 1997 Lions tour of South Africa where he played in the winning second test opposite James Small who refused to shake his hand after the game. Bentley was one of the most important personalities on tour. 'Bentos' as he was known scored one of the most famous tries in Lions history as he left five tacklers for dead in an epic victory over Gauteng.

Doddie Weir
Doddie Weir made three appearances during the 1997 Tour to South Africa, scoring a try on his debut against Eastern Province. Weir was first capped for Scotland against Argentina in 1990, he was a mainstay of the team throughout the 1990s, earning 61 caps.

The dinner will commence at 7.30pm and will include a sumptuous two-course dinner, charitable raffle and auction.

Tables of 10 are available from £60+VAT. A quantity of individual covers on shared tables of 10 are also available from just £60+VAT per person.
